I got the first two seasons of Greatest American Hero for two reasons:
1.) Each season was only $7.50.
2.) One of the main characters is played by Robert Culp.
Now, Robert Culp, for those of you who aren't into classic shows, is awesome. He and Bill Cosby starred in "I Spy," which was the first American show to have a black man and a white man as equals (they were partners and spies-- it's amazing and all on Hulu, for those interested).
So when I saw Culp was one of the stars, and that it was a "quirky sci-fi comedy," I expected something slightly cheesy and funny, because hello, it's an 80s show about a special education teacher who's given a special suit from aliens and promptly loses the instruction manual.
...Oh was I wrong.
Instead, in the first six minutes of the pilot episode, I got to watch a black FBI agent hunted down by white supremacists and murdered as one of the women sang "Onward, Christian Soldiers."
I was actually crying and felt sick to my stomach, because that was NOT what I was expecting. I have withstood all the Criminal Minds episodes, and THIS was what made me almost throw up. How is this a comedy? It was honestly one of the most disturbing scenes I've ever watched. It doesn't help that later on the aliens USE THE DEAD FBI AGENT'S BODY as a mouthpiece to talk to Culp's character and the main guy.
Culp turns out to be a recovering alcoholic FBI agent-- his partner is the one we see murdered in the first few minutes. They capture the bad guys, and Culp pretty much bullies the main guy into working for the US government.
Ace, I said to myself, maybe that was just pilotitis and the second episode will be better.
ME: *starts second episode*
BLACK COP: *talks to witness he is protecting*
ME: Okay, so far so go--
CAR: *drives by and starts shooting*
BLACK COP: *dies*
ME: *screams at TV* WHY DO YOU HATE BLACK PEOPLE, SHOW?
...So, yeah. I think I am giving up on this show, since the only redeeming features are the awesome lawyer girlfriend and the theme song.

And then this summer, starting in June/July, I get Burn Notice, The Closer, Psych, and In Plain Sight (a new show about the Witness Protection program). *cheers*

TNT just did a commercial for The Closer, which is returning in July. *flails happily*
The song? "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" -- with Brenda Leigh walking through the empty halls of the station. AWESOME. :D
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
It's not warm when she's away.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone,
And she's always gone too long
Anytime she goes away.
Wonder this time where she's gone,
Wonder if she's gone to stay.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone,
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away.
I know
Gotta leave the young thing alone.
There ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone,
Only darkness every day.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Brenda Leigh! My Old Man OTP, Flynn and Provenza! Fritz! Sanchez! Tao! Daniels! Buzz! Everyone! Even Taylor! Even Pope! :D
(On TNT's website, they note in Flynn's personnel file that he is "close" to Provenza. Is THAT what they're calling it these days? *cough*)
Man, I wish The Closer had a fandom so I could wheedle someone into writing Flynn/Provenza for me.

Matt, I saw this and thought of you
Apr. 28th, 2008 07:51 pmIn response to heat they're getting from the American Family Association, P&G is conducting a phone poll to see if people are for or against the Luke/Noah storyline on As The World Turns. Even if you don't watch the show, please consider taking a quick moment to support boy kissing and thwart homophobic bigotry. The poll is completely automated. You don't have to talk to anyone. And it really does take all of a second to register your opinion.
Just call 1-800-331-3774 and press #1 to continue in English (or #2 for Spanish) [ETA: apparently you may or may not get that question, so listen to the menu], then 2 to get to the ATWT poll, then press 1 to continue the storyline.
Please spread the word if you're so inclined.

Mar. 24th, 2008 10:09 pmHow much do I love Big Bang Theory, you ask?
So much.
*giggles and pats Sheldon and Leonard*
ETA: Fuck you too, Universe.
Ugh. Can this day/week/year/decade be over with, please? So far Mom still hasn't found a new job and also called to tell me that Uncle Ricky's brain surgery didn't go well. Now Dad's sent me a thoroughly unhelpful email that's got me paranoid that he's lost his job when he still owes Mom $15,000.
Argh. *resists urge to smash things*

Re: The Big Bang Theory
Nov. 12th, 2007 10:36 pm...Sheldon/Leonard fic, please? Or, barring that, asexual!Sheldon fic? *hopeful look* I know someone HAS to have written it by now. I mean, I've already seen Chuck/Bryce fics for Chuck, therefore there must be someone out there writing Sheldon/Leonard fic for Big Bang!

With John/Elizabeth and Rodney/Radek. :) Also, taking memorable quotes from movies on IMDb and inserting SGA characters instead is FUN.

Hee, I watched the CBS trailer for "The Big Bang Theory" that premieres on September 24th, which looks to be adorable and geeky! (Although it is by the guys who did Two and a Half Men which...did nothing for me, but this one looks cute AND it has the guy from Roseanne as one of the nerds, woo.)
( Youtube Trailers for The Big Bang Theory, Moonlight, and Chuck )
Reminder to self:
Chuck premiere - September 24th at 8 on NBC
The Big Bang Theory premiere - September 24th at 8:30 on CBS
Heroes premiere - September 24th at 9 on NBC
The Office premiere - September 27th at 9 on NBC
CSI premiere - September 27th at 9 on CBS
Moonlight premiere - September 28th at 9 on CBS
Crap, both CSI and The Office conflict, and Chuck might run into The Big Bang Theory. Boo, TV, boo.

TV Show Recs?
May. 20th, 2007 09:42 pmYeah, I haven't even started my 35-hour week of work and I'm already exhausted just thinking about it, so in an attempt to cheer myself up, I decided to think about what boxsets I can buy with my first paycheck.
Anyone have any suggestions? I know I'll get SG-1 S9 at some point, if just to see Vala and Cameron, but otherwise, I don't know what TV shows are good.
To give you a clue as to what I like, here are the boxsets I already have:
SG-1 S1-8
SGA 1-2
Without a Trace S1
Numb3rs S1
House, M.D. S1
Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1
I mean, I guess I could just play catch-up on the TV shows I already have? *ponders* And maybe get Joan of Arcadia S1-2. I loved that show.

Hee, oh Judging Amy
May. 9th, 2007 02:10 pmOkay, I watched Judging Amy today. Not only does it have the guy who plays Carlton Lassiter from Psych as someone who works for the children's services, but Amy's fiance/husband/lover? Definitely Nathan Petrelli from Heroes, hahaha.
And he's so adorable too. She's pregnant so they decide to find a house. And he keeps saying they should move onto his boat because he loves his boat. And he is sad when she says no to the boat.
The plotline of this episode was heart-breaking though. Children taken from Eastern European countries and made into slaves. These two brothers were taken from Romania and one was locked in a basement for months and beaten while the other was taken somewhere else to sweep a store or something. But they were reunited, yay! The dumbass slavers were like, "Their parents gave them to us for a better life!" but hello, one, the parents didn't know their kids were going to be slaves and two, who trusts the slavers not to just grab kids off the streets. It's so creepy. I mean, it's the 21st century and we have slavery in the United States? Not cool.

Sesame Street!
May. 5th, 2007 05:31 pmSesame Street: Follow that Bird just started on HBO Family. Mom and I are watching it. Now, it isn't our favorite -- that's reserved for the one about the history museum and the Egyptian kid and Big Bird yelling at Anubis -- but we're still watching it for nostalgia's sake.
...
Yes, we're dorks. Why do you ask?

Are YOU Afraid of the Dark?
Mar. 27th, 2007 02:22 pmAnd this is how I am dated --> I watched Nic's "Are You Afraid of the Dark" when it was first shown...in 1992. *giggles* And I've downloaded the first five episodes of S1. The horrible acting? Amuses me. A lot.
And then came episode two, "The Tale of the Laughing in the Dark." And there was this kid who looked so damn familiar. I was going, "Who is he? Seriously, I KNOW him."
...That would be because it was fourteen-year-old Christian Tessier, the guy who played "Duck" on Battlestar Galactica. *giggles* Damn does he have beautiful hair though. Really, really pale red so that it seems like pure copper. Nice.
And one of the main storytellers is the actress who played Cher in Clueless. *grin*
Now all I need is for someone to upload "Salute Your Shorts" and "Hey Dude" and my life will be complete. ;)

Underfunded!
Nov. 8th, 2006 08:45 pmUnderfunded premieres on USA today at 10 Eastern time. *laughs* This is going to be so bad. And I'll probably get an evil plotbunny from it. But oh well. *grabs some cookies and gets ready to watch a very weird show about the Canadian Secret Service*
ETA: ...So, so bad. And yet I still want to write bitchy Canadian Secret Service agent!Rodney. *snickers* Dissing the Americans and saving the day.

Canadian Secret Service?
Oct. 25th, 2006 10:40 pmUSA is doing a TV show about...the Canadian Secret Service.
It's going to be either really, really funny (akin to Psych) or atrociously bad. *can't wait to find out*
"UNDERFUNDED is a one-hour pilot about the best agent in the little known Canadian Secret Service (yes, they have one too). Mather Zickel stars as the agent whose brilliance in the field compensates for the woefully underfunded agency's lack of resources, both high- and low-tech. As he goes about his duties, the constant indignities he faces as a result of his agency's inadequate budget causes him much frustration with comedic results."
PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
· Brian Howe as Owen Barnaby
· Dhirendra as Nash
· Holt McCallany
· Joanna Canton as Naomi Lutz
· Mather Zickel as Darryl Freehorn
· Monika Schnarre
· Ryan McPartlin as Matt Sykes
