Now that's irony for you....

...When the longest fanfic that I've ever written IN MY LIFE is a pairing that isn't my OTP of the show.
*stares at this McShep Nutcracker AU* It was supposed to be a Christmas present. It's now 10,000 words and I'm stuck on the battle scene and the end. *almost weeps* Ten thousand words and I'm stuck. And I wanted to have it done by New Year's. Damnit.
The closest I've come to 10,000 was a 8,300-word CSI fic that was David Hodges/Greg Sanders. And most of my McKay/Zelenka fics end up being around 6,000.
...
Also, I refuse to do that one meme that's been going around -- you know, the one where you post a link to every story you've written in 2006 and give a brief description of it or something? My reason for this is simple. I looked, realized that I HAVE NO LIFE because I've written 53 CSI fics (no, I'm not kidding you), 10 SGA fics, 3 House fics, one SG-1 fic, and one King Kong fic, and started whimpering and banging my head on the nearest flat surface. Sixty-eight freaking stories.
The realization that I have no life has saddened me, and the McShep fic and the goddamn Mausekönig are laughing at me, so I'm going to go read a book and sulk. Goodnight.

Date: 2006-12-31 02:28 am (UTC)Dude, I adore Susan Cooper. She is one of those writers where I lament that I will never be as amazing as. Like Robin McKinley. But oh Will. *pats him* And Merriman!
And I seriously just read Tamora Pierce's Alanna two days ago, and her Protector of the Small series a few days ago. *laughs*

Date: 2006-12-31 03:18 am (UTC)Before with the Darkangel trilogy what I meant to say was with the way the trilogy ended I felt incomplete so I never reread them like I do so many of my books.
Robin McKinley -- I love her books! Mairelon and its sequel -- they're so cute. Plus her Hari series.
Alanna -- I read the first quartet and the Wild Ones series I belive but haven't gotten much further with those books.
Have you tried Dianne Wynn Jones? Joan Vince?
Geez, it's nice seeing someone else has read these books.

Date: 2006-12-31 07:19 pm (UTC)Really? Incomplete? I don't remember feeling that. Then again, it's been a while. I might've 'conviently' forgotten if I disliked the ending.
The Protector of the Small is a good series, and so is her Circle of Magic, which has two quartets, The Circle of Magic and the Circle Opens. It's set in another universe, with a focus on magic rather than knights and whatnot. I really enjoyed the series.
God, I love/hate Diana Wynne Jones. I mean, I love her, but she devastated me with The Homeward Bounders. That book broke my heart. Even now I get a lump in my throat just thinking about it. I haven't heard of Joan Vince though. I'll have to look her up. Have you read Diane Duane's So You Want to Be a Wizard series?

Date: 2006-12-31 09:03 pm (UTC)I have the same love/hate of Jones -- I loved her book Howl's Moving Castle but others I could not get into.
How 'bout Patricia McKillip?

Date: 2006-12-31 10:19 pm (UTC)Patricia McKillip... Was she the one who wrote the Riddlemaster trilogy? Because I read the first novel, adored it, and then, uh, found out my favorite character was evil on the final page and refused to read the rest of the trilogy. *laughs* It was a good book though, until that twist.
Have you ever read Mary Hoffman's Stravaganza series? It's about an alternate universe where silver is more precious than gold and is set in cities like Venice and whatnot and is really interesting. :)

Date: 2007-01-01 12:02 am (UTC)I don't recall reading Hoffman's series -- have you read Glenn Cook's Garrett series?
