Well, this has been a thoroughly blah weekend. *pokes muses and tries to wake them up* So I decided to do a quotation hunt and post some of my favorite ones. Maybe they'll inspire me to work on fics.
The name is lost. As is the story, the legend. Neither a name nor a memory nor even an empty space is left. Nothing. But perhaps somewhere at least an impression is left, the beauty, at least a trace of the tear, the beauty, the loveliness of the person, the legend.
~Josef Skvorecky, in The Bass Saxophone
(That would actually be good for a depressing SGA fic.)
I don’t know much about death and the sorriest lesson I’ve learned is that words, my most trusted guardians against chaos, offer small comfort in the face of anyone’s dying.
~Alison Hawthorne Deming, in “Inside the Wolf”
You are ice and fire the touch of you burns my hands like snow.
~Amy Lowell
(Actually, I'm already using this quotation for a McKay/Zelenka fic. But it's pretty so I posted it anyway.)
It isn't enough for your heart to break because everybody's heart is broken now.
~Allen Ginsberg
Children begin by loving their parents; after a time they judge them; rarely, if ever, do they forgive them.
~Oscar Wilde
The dead cannot cry out for justice; it is a duty of the living to do so for them.
~Lois McMaster Bujold
