Valjean's A+ Escape Method

...or why Les Miserables 1934 is probably my favorite adaptation.

One of my favorite scenes is one in which Marius accidentally sends Javert straight to Valjean's door right after the Gorbeau House incident and Valjean uses an...interesting method of escape. I posted the clip on Veoh and provided the English translation below. 

English translation:

JAVERT: Mr. Fauchelevent?

VALJEAN: That's me.

JAVERT: Why did you run off like that? I was looking forward to meeting you...Mr. Fauchelevent.

VALJEAN: But I haven't been out since this morning. To whom do I have the honor of speaking?

JAVERT: Inspector Javert.

VALJEAN: This is an outrage, sir.

JAVERT: You're quite a strong man. I know only one man as strong as you. An ex-convict named Jean Valjean. He was also the mayor of Montreuil, under the name Monsieur Madeleine. We've been looking for him for eight years now. You look a lot like him. Has no one ever told you that?

VALJEAN: I repeat, sir, that you're making a mistake. My name is Ursule Fauchelevent. I've lived here for 14 years. I'm in the National Guard. Here are my papers. *escapes*
