Diana Wynne Jones passed away today, after a battle with cancer.

I really don't have the words to describe how I'm feeling right now. I knew she'd been suffering, so in a way I'm glad that her pain is over, but at the same time, I'm grieving over her loss.

DWJ is the author for me, the one you read when you're a kid and go, "Oh, I want to write and do stuff like this!" I've read all of her books, and re-read my favorites (Eight Days of Luke, Howl's Moving Castle, the Chrestomanci series, The Ogre Downstairs) at least three, four times each.

Diana Wynne Jones, along with Tamora Pierce and Bruce Coville, were the writers who got me into fantasy and sci-fi, who made me want to write and create worlds and characters and scenarios as vivid and engaging as theirs. Without their influential works, I wouldn't be the woman and writer I am today.

RIP, Ms. Jones. We'll miss you.
