Alcohol and SGA
Oct. 12th, 2007 11:10 pmI, ah, renewed my learner's permit just to be able to buy alcohol. Does that make me a bad person? (I am still stunned that I was in and out of the DMV within an hour. I mean, DUDE.)
Okay, I know some people are really hating this season, and I understand not wanting Elizabeth to go. Despite that, I think this episode is one of the best of the show.
We got Teyla actually being more than a damsel in distress, talking about the struggle she had going from a leader of her people to an outsider on Atlantis.
We had Ronon being more than just the muscle, actually displaying emotions. I love his scenes with Carter, how he's the only one willing to say to her face that she's not Weir, that he doesn't know her and can't trust her as far as he can throw her (which is definitely not as far as John can throw Radek, hee).
We had Sam, struggling with being the outsider and leading an expedition that has pretty much gone native. I did raise an eyebrow at her calling Sheppard 'John' -- they don't know each other that well, but hey, I guess she thinks it's a good way to make friends. I was really intrigued by the idea of the IOA not letting Teyla and Ronon leave because of the security risk they pose to Atlantis. Can someone write me a fic with Ronon and Teyla kicking ass and taking names when the IOA thinks they're "polluting" the expedition members' minds against Earth and tries to confine them or something?
We had John, still desperately believing Elizabeth is alive and bucking against the IOA's restraints because damnit, he does not leave people behind, especially not Elizabeth. I loved his passive-aggressive speech to Ronon about "Oh yeah, I'm not going to tell you how you're being an idiot and making the worst mistake ever, only I just did."
And of course, we had Rodney being Rodney, with his flustered, horribly awkward sweetness and his attempts to make Sam feel at home on Atlantis. Oh, Rodney. *pats him*
Oh, the shipper moments! John/Elizabeth, with John refusing to give up on her and wanting her back. Ronon/Teyla, with their scenes and the quiet understanding the viewer can see between them.
And of course, the Rodney/Radek moments. The opening scene, with Rodney and Radek chatting and Rodney looking ready to burst with happiness at "obviously" being the new leader of Atlantis and Radek looking horrified because damn, his boyfriend does not need a bigger ego. "I want to make everyone proud-- no, I want to make you proud." I think I scared my cat with my loud squeaking at that. And then, naturally, Radek just hopping into a jumper with Carter to go rescue Rodney. :D
Man, my one quibble was that I totally called the whole Wraith-worshiper thing. Well, given, as soon as the Satedans ganged up on Teyla, I was all, "God, Ronon, you had loser friends. Even McKay's a step up from them." ;) And as soon as they mentioned their friends being "sacrifices" I knew they were Wraith-worshipers.
Speaking of which, one thing I'd love to see more fics of (besides Rodney/Radek, of course) would be stories about Wraith-worshiping, because that fascinates me.
So yes, I really, really enjoyed this episode. :D
