Date: 2015-07-02 02:31 pm (UTC)But so many amazing shenanigans! SO MANY. I loved Lady Catherine's argument with the sailor over whose life was the worst, and her conceding that yep, his life sucks the most.
And that ending! Like nope, none of those ladies need a man, they're all going to go off to Wales and live together with the lovely housekeeper and GET EDUCATED. (Well, Maria Lucas might want to get married later on, to someone who's not a wet rag like Fitzwilliam.) Also SURPRISE CROSSDRESSING, thank you Joan Aiken.
And the one bad guy's subtle crisis of faith like "oh my god I was just trying to smarm my way into fortune and accidentally caused this guy's death, I am the WORST" and his deciding to live with the painter. Delightful.
And actually I saw your recommendation for Elisabeth Sanxay Holding and went looking for her work. Thanks for the rec, because she's amazing! I love her characters and also how she pokes at societal restrictions and sexism and also how much she loves lady friendships as much as I do!
(I...actually want fic about the ladies in The Innocent Mrs. Duff because I loved all the hints of friendship we got despite Duff's self-absorbed stupidity.)
