Dear Rare Pairs Writer,

First off, relax, and thank you for participating! I hope you enjoy Rare Pairs Fest this year. This is my first time in this particular exchange, so I hope we both have fun.

As you may guess from my requests, I like relationships of any variety (het, femslash, slash, threesomes).

Stuff I love includes but is not limited to: found families, epistolary/documentary, friends to lovers, hurt/comfort, pretend couples (that turn into real couples), friends with benefits, people showing their care and concern by feeding the other person, loyalty kink, gardening, fix-its, missing scenes, and futurefic.

I'm not really into explicit sex scenes, but feel free to write one if you want! Stuff I don't want, unless otherwise stated in that particular request, is: infidelity/adultery, character death, and non-con/dub-con.

Below the cut has spoilers for Rurouni Kenshin, Lloyd Alexander's Westmark trilogy, Tolkien's The Silmarillion, The Awesomes, Ace Attorney, and Twelfth Night.

Rurouni Kenshin (Sagara Sanosuke/Yūkyūzan Anji)

I love this relationship, how much Sanosuke respects Anji, and how Sanosuke is the only one who can get Anji free of his grief and rage and let him start on a path towards healing. I would love something with Sanosuke maybe bothering his friend Tsunan into reporting on the prison reforms that were going on during the Meiji era and getting a free trip to Hokkaido to visit Anji? Or, with the ending of the manga, Sanosuke could grab Anji out of prison on his way out of Japan and Anji finds redemption and peace through resuming his priesthood and being with Sanosuke.

Westmark (Caroline/Torrens)

“And you, my loving friend. Tell me, could we have been happy?” “Yes. Yes. I am certain of it.” Ugh, this pairing breaks my heart. They spend so many years as devoted friends, and there’s all this potential for more after the king’s death, but they never get a chance to be happy together. I’d love fix-it for them. One idea is post-The Beggar Queen they live and leave the country and maybe settle down in a town like the one Torrens grew up in, and Torrens sets up a doctor’s office and Caroline can grow a garden and they can live peacefully together with the occasional letter from Mickle and Theo, but I’d be delighted with anything you can come up with.

The Silmarillion (Bëor/Finrod, Turin/Beleg, Beren/Luthien/Finrod, Nienor/Nellas, Nienor/Finduilas)

So many awesome pairings and potential here! Bëor/Finrod and Turin/Beleg hit me in all my loyalty feelings. I’d love to see something with Bëor and Finrod early in their relationship, maybe when Bëor is adjusting to living in Nargothrond or both Bëor and Finrod navigating the beginning of their relationship (I am amused by the fact that elves seem to have a much lower sex drive, so Finrod’s “Wait, how often do you want to have sex? Oh. Oh. Well, I’m not objecting!” would be really great.)

For Turin/Beleg I’d love fix-it AUs. What if Beleg got a bad feeling and went to Menegroth in time to stop Saeros from dying and Turin goes back to the marches with him? What if Gwindor somehow prevents Turin from killing Beleg? If you don’t want to do fix-it, maybe something set during the Doriath period with hurt/comfort, since Children of Hurin has Turin getting a lot of injuries fighting alongside Beleg in the marches.

I’d also love fix-it for Beren/Luthien/Finrod where Luthien arrives just in time to save Finrod from his wounds, and them figuring out what happens next—does Finrod wander off to live with them for a while? Do they come and live at Nargothrond with them?

For Nienor/Nellas and Nienor/Finduilas, I just want all the ladies to be happy! I imagine Nienor lived a pretty sheltered life since Morwen wouldn’t trust Brodda’s men, so maybe something with Menegroth being too crowded for her and her escaping to the forests and meeting Nellas? And then I’d love a fix-it where Finduilas lives and meets Nienor somehow and they both survive and live happily together, with Nienor regaining her memories eventually.

The Awesomes (Dr. Malocchio/Mr. Awesome)

What’s not to love about friends turned enemies, with Dr. Malocchio managing to give himself super powers but turning himself evil, while still remaining himself with his love of cooking for himself and his minions? I’d love anything about these two (and to no longer be the only person who’s written this pairing), whether it’s pre-evil series where they’re studying the hero gene together and having scientific makeouts, during their time together on the space station when Mr. Awesome is trying to turn him good again, or your take on when Dr. Malocchio is good again but now it’s Mr. Awesome who’s evil (dub-con is all right here because Dr. Malocchio would want it just not in this type of scenario).

Ace Attorney (Miles Edgeworth/Dick Gumshoe, Dick Gumshoe/Will Powers)

Gumshoe is my favorite character in the game, and I really want him to be loved and actually get decent meals and happiness. For Edgeworth/Gumshoe, I was super charmed by Gumshoe’s disastrous attempts to take Edgeworth on dates in the manga (come see a concert of my favorite band, sir! Oh no one of the band members got murdered; oh hey sir let’s go on a picnic, oh wait, the other person I invited is a murderer; etc) and would love to see more of that. Or something cute like Edgeworth drawing Gumshoe’s name for a Secret Santa exchange or something and doing something really nice for him. Or maybe Gumshoe’s parents are visiting from out of town and there are shenanigans because Gumshoe doesn’t want them to see his terrible apartment!

For Gumshoe/Powers, like with Malocchio/Mr. Awesome, I would…like to not be the only person who’s written this pairing on AO3, ha. But also I love that Powers is the one to point out that Gumshoe helped save the day in “Farewell, My Turnabout” and Gumshoe’s so happy. I’d love something about them being friends and like taking each other out on coupon dates (every time they get a coupon for a meal at a restaurant, they invite the other guy, and eventually get themselves barred from most of the restaurants in the city) and then falling for each other. Bonus points for how much Edgeworth’s brain would break at finding out that Gumshoe is dating the Steel Samurai.

Twelfth Night (Antonio/Sebastian)

I have seen about four adaptations of Twelfth Night, and Antonio makes me sad every time. He’s so devoted to Sebastian, does so much for him including risking his life and being imprisoned, and ends up alone and sad at the end of the play. I’d love to see something where he and Sebastian work it out, while still respecting Olivia (I always preferred her in a V threesome aka Viola/Olivia and Viola/Orsino anyway). How they do that is totally up to you! I’d also love something about the time they spent together after Antonio rescues Sebastian from drowning, if you’d prefer to write that.

Writer, I would be delighted with any pairing here. I hope you have fun with the fest and get a great fic/art as well!
