Books, books, books!
Mar. 12th, 2008 03:13 pmSo, after my hair cut today, Mom and I went to a thrift shop (all proceeds go to our local hospice, so it's a win-win) and I bought...uh, a crapload of books. As in 18 books. *shifty eyes*
Books
Classics
Paradise Lost & Paradise Regained by Milton
The Yellow Wallpaper and Other Writings by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
Juvenile and YA Fiction
Sixth Grade Secrets by Louis Sachar
Bunnicula by Deborah and James Howe
Howliday Inn by James Howe
The Celery Stalks At Midnight by James Howe
Fantasy/Sci-fi (YA and Adult)
The Star of Kazan by Eva Ibbotson
The Dark Hills Divide by Patrick Carman, The Land of Elyon Book 1
The Skull of Truth by Bruce Coville
Time Cat by Lloyd Alexander
The High King by Lloyd Alexander
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
Once A Hero by Elizabeth Moon
Quantum Leap: The Novel by Ashley McConnell
Other
Selected Poems, 1963-1983 by Charles Simic
Guess how much I paid for all of them? If you guessed under $10, you'd be right! They were all 50 cents each, so I only paid nine dollars. *does victory dance* Books, books, lovely books. Not that I have any room for them, but still!

Books, books, books!
Date: 2008-03-13 03:04 pm (UTC)I love buying books that way, for 25 or 50 cents each, at the library (in NYC, libraries sell books "on the side" - I'm not sure what criteria they use to take things out of circulation and sell them), at Salvation Army or Goodwill branches, at flea markets or garage sales. Many of the books I have in my fairly large collection were purchased that way. I also buy books used from amazon dot com.
I also like to "rescue" books found in such places - such as your Milton and Bronte, or bibles or other religious books, histories, dictionaries, etc. Even if I already have a copy (or more than one copy), if it looks like the books are getting lost in the shuffle, I'll buy them up just to preserve them. Eventually, I'll give them away or sell them myself.
So glad to see someone else who enjoys buying books from thrift shops!
Love, max
