So today? Sucked. As in, this guy accused me of being racist and reported me to my manager...because I wouldn't let him cut in line in front of six people. One lady gave me her card and told me to let her know if I needed a witness to the incident, and another elderly gentleman told me I "stood strong under pressure" but it still sucks, especially since this is Giant, and Giant is a firm believer in that whole "the customer is always right" spiel.

I have a few box sets I've bought and haven't had a chance to watch. I think I'm going to veg out on the couch for a while, definitely until I feel less like kicking something.

If it comes down to a dispute between customer & employee, the "customer is always right"...

but if the customer is trying to bully or hurt other customers, then "the other customers are always right". If you need a line of defense, point out that you were acting in the interest of the greater number of customers.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind if I get hauled in for questioning by the management. :)

A group of people tend to stick together in situations when it is the 'right' thing to do-I witness that all the time in the city. Customers here would never let that person 'cut' and put you (the cashier/waitperson)in a position. I recently went to a drug store and their computer system was down so I couldn't use my credit card. I saw the customer in line at the next register and she had her credit card out, so I thought I didn't see the sign that said "Cash Only," and asked my cashier. When she informed me that there were no credit card transactions, I immediately informed the other customers around me. My cashier told that cashier that she had to tell customers up front.

My point is that the person cutting was wrong, and standing up for what is right in front of the other customers, you brought your store more customer loyalty in the long run. It's like being a teacher, the student can always remember the teacher because they concentrate on them for such a long time, where the teacher can't necessarily remember every student because there are so many.

If you feel storngly about it, tell the person who would witness to make a complaint to the management about the other customer. If not in this case, in the future, remember to tell them to let the manager know that you did a good job.

Also, we all know that name calling is so third grade, that person knew they were wrong.

Thanks. :) Most of the customers did thank me or congratulate me on handling myself well afterwards, so I think I did help the store.

I think I was the most upset about being accused of racism. That was what truly upset me in the end. I work hard at treating all of the customers equally.

We've got a warning flag on the guy. It looked like he was a brand-new customer so (hopefully) he won't be back. Heh. ;)

You, a Chase/Foreman fan, called a racist? ::incredulous look:: Well, I'm a multi-minority, and I say: you = SO not a racist. Take heart in the fact that those who know you even slightly better than that Random Angry "Gentleman" think that is the most ridiculous claim ever.

::offers you a Three's Company board game:: ;-D
