Personal Canon

Was wandering friendsfriends, and saw this meme on

20 things about Stargate: Atlantis that I hold to be my own personal canon.
1. After the Dart incident and the McKay-Cadman debacle, Lorne starts finding reasons to get Zelenka on his team. Sure, the guy startles easily, but he has a good head on his shoulders.
2. It takes Radek until they're kicked out of Atlantis by the Ancients to realize that he, Lorne, Cadman, and Stackhouse are an actual team, not just the best people to rescue John's team from whatever mess they've gotten into. He only actually figures it out because Lorne, Cadman, and Stackhouse show up at the door to his quarters to say good-bye.
3. Peter was the man in charge of the black market that first year. Everyone assumes Chuck is in charge now, as Elizabeth's new second-in-command. It's actually Corrigan, one of the anthropologists, who will later write a paper on the black market with a sociologist. They'll win several awards for their findings.
4. Laura and Katie are actually best friends. Laura knows that Katie only came at first to escape her mother's recent death and stayed because she loves the city. Katie knows that sometimes Laura wakes up thinking Rodney was the one who let go and that she's trapped in his body for the rest of her life.
5. Radek's brother doesn't actually exist. Radek just uses him to one-up Rodney whenever he can. His sister (and unfortunately his nephew) do exist, though.
6. Rodney doesn't figure this out until he and Radek go to receive their dual Nobel prize and Rodney meets Radek's entire family. Rodney's nephew is a teenager by then and gets into a shouting match with Rodney after implying that Canada is just a satellite of the United States.
7. Elizabeth sometimes feels guilty that she misses Sedge more than Simon or her mother. She also regrets the fact that Sedge has been dead only two years when Atlantis becomes a colony and they can actually have pets.
8. Kate didn't actually want to come back to Atlantis when Sheppard and the others defeated the Replicators. Unfortunately, she's the only psychiatrist McKay will actually talk to. Sometimes she hates McKay for this.
9. Teyla's mother isn't actually dead. When Teyla first began showing her Wraith-sensing abilities, her mother considered Teyla cursed by the Ancestors and left Tagan. She went to live with the Belsans and eventually married a Satedan who happens to be Ronon's third cousin. Teyla and Ronon will never know.
10. Ronon wasn't actually a soldier, originally. He was a university student, getting a degree in history. Then the war happened, and he was drafted. Someday he wants to write the history of his people. He just fears his work will be hopelessly inadequate.
11. John didn't have the dark childhood he suspects a lot of people think he did. Sure, his father wasn't home a lot and his mother was overly critical most days, but they weren't abusive. Just not what most people would consider family.
12. Teyla sometimes wishes the Ring of the Ancestors had not given the Lanteans the ability to speak every language and just given them the Common tongue. It would be nice to be able to mutter under her breath as Doctor Zelenka does.
13. In the National Cemetery in Arlington, one of the graves has a tomato plant growing in front of it. Only his family and a certain astrophysicist know why.
14. It isn't until year five on Atlantis that someone discovers a music recital hall. There are bi-annual performances, made up of scientists and military and try as some might, Rodney is never coaxed into playing for an audience. Parrish turns out to be an amazing cellist and Esposito a skilled violinist, though.
15. Miko actually doesn't like anime, although her sister's a huge fan. She's starting to hate it, especially since no one believes her when she says she's more interested in foreign films and documentaries. After the first year, she just starts getting anime and manga from her sister to bargain with on the black market.
16. Every few months a wannabe-paleontologist with an actual degree in chemistry will suggest to Elizabeth that they really ought to investigate that T-Rex planet to see if the dinosaurs are possibly from Earth. Every few months Elizabeth says no.
17. Lots of people think that Chuck has a crush on Elizabeth. (And some think his crush is Radek, which Chuck really, really doesn't get-- just because he likes chatting with the scientist and maybe checks to see if Radek's in the mess hall before he takes a break and okay, maybe he really, really enjoys spending time with-- all right, Chuck gets why they joke about him having a crush.) Still, it's Katie Brown that he has his eye on, though he waits until she and McKay are definitely no longer a couple before he asks her out on a date.
18. Rodney's original personal item was his cat. Unfortunately, the SGC shot down that idea. He still hasn't quite forgiven them for refusing his request. After all, it was just one cat.
19. The reason Kavanagh was 'skulking around' on the Daedalus was because he had a crush on Lindsey Novak. Not that he'll ever admit that-- or that she'll ever figure it out.
20. Rodney is actually deathly allergic to citrus. What most people don't realize is that Elizabeth is equally allergic to bee stings and Ronon to seafood. They just don't gripe about it. Maybe they should have though, judging from that time Elizabeth went into anaphylactic shock while off-world visiting Ladon. Oh, and the fact that they almost started a war with that one world because Sheppard thought they'd poisoned Ronon.

Date: 2007-05-11 02:45 am (UTC)It's not bad and the thought never crossed my mind that you were fishing for compliments. I like the twists and it's a great set-up as preslash. I was pondering the tenses.
I think you could stick to past tense the entire time and that would work, rather than have the, er, past in past tense and, um, the present in the present tense. *couldn't figure out another way to word this*

I'd like to see several of these expanded someday. The Cadman bit about still being in Rodney's body nightmares, particularly.
