R/R Poetry of the Night
Oct. 24th, 2006 12:04 amWhat can I say to you? How can I retract
All that that fool, my voice, has spoken
Now that the facts are plain, the placid surface cracked,
The protocols of friendship broken?
I cannot walk by day as now I walk at dawn
Past the still house where you lie sleeping.
May the sun burn these footprints on the lawn
And hold you in its warmth and keeping.
~"Protocols" by Vikram Seth
("Protocols" really feels like a R/R post-Trinity poem to me, where Rodney realizes he's screwed up but hasn't been truly forgiven yet. But that could just be in my head. *grins*)
Because you love me I have much achieved,
Had you despised me then I must have failed,
But since I knew you trusted and believed,
I could not disappoint you and so prevailed.
~"Encouraged" by Paul Laurence Dunbar
(Um...not sure how to explain my reasoning behind this one. *shrugs and grins*)
Oh, when I was in love with you,
Then I was clean and brave,
And miles around the wonder grew
How well did I behave.
And now the fancy passes by,
And nothing will remain,
And miles around they'll say that I
Am quite myself again.
~"Oh, When I Was in Love With You" by A.E. Housman
(This is a post-relationship R/R to me, where Rodney mellowed out a bit when he and Radek were together, and now that they've broken up, he's back to his old self again.)
