Story Idea *glee*
Nov. 15th, 2004 05:10 pmI've got a story idea! One that I can actually see myself FINISHING!
...Mostly because the main character has to cross-dress throughout a good portion of the book.
But still! One I can finish!
So far I've got the title, the basic plot line, and a handful of the important characters.
MY NAME WAS MANELIN
"There are many different attitudes about the birth of twins. Some cultures consider it good luck; others consider it an oracle of disaster. In the Bardia, where the women rule and the men are merely there to reproduce, twins are considered a sign of good luck—especially if two girls are born. Unfortunately for Farsiris, queen of the Bardians, she gives birth to a son and a daughter, whom she names Manelin and Mantreh. Defying custom, she lets her son live and promises to send him to his father, Crown Prince Yardan of Kalili, when Manelin turns ten.
Fate, however, has a different life in store for the royal Bardian family. On the eve of Queen Farsiris’ thirty-seventh birthday, there is an attack on the palace. Farsiris and nine-year-old Mantreh are slaughtered before Manelin’s very eyes. Again, custom would see Manelin slain in hopes that this would appease the gods of the Bardian people, but Shirin—the twins’ milk-mother—has other plans. She weaves a web of deception in which the people believe that Mantreh survived.
And so Manelin dons the warrior-maiden garb and pretends to be a woman. As he grows to adulthood and leads numerous battles, he is constantly reminded that he is lying to his people. But is the lie worth the loss of his happiness if it serves to keep him alive? He fights in his first battle at the age of sixteen, and goes on to become the general of the Bardian army. He wars in battle after battle, conquers country after country, but all under the guise of Queen Mantreh."
So far I have Manelin, his mother Queen Farsiris, his sister Mantreh, his milk-mother Shirin, his father Crown Prince Yardan, his personal slave Namir, his best friend Sanura, and a couple other people that play a major role in the story.
*is very happy* I'm just gonna do a brief desc on them and then start working on the first chapter. Oh, and do a few notes on the hierarchy in the Bardian culture.
