cinaed: This fic was supposed to be short (R&R (Rodney/Radek))

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, post one sentence (or more) from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favorite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre)if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

All the Crazy Married People (The Office/How I Met Your Mother)

When Gil gets the invitation to the wedding of James Stinson, he looks at it for a long moment, expression blank. He holds the invitation almost gingerly, as though it’s hot and hurts to handle.

Oscar tries and fails to guess what emotion’s tucked away behind that impassive mask, but when Gil sends back a note saying congratulations and that he’ll be attending with a guest, Oscar figures it’s safe to assume that Gil isn’t too upset about his ex getting married.

Everybody Loves To Love You When You’re Far Away (The Magnificent Seven)

“So much for a peaceful day,” he muttered and then exchanged a coin for the telegram.

“Well, who’s it from?” JD asked.

One corner of Ezra’s mouth turned upwards, a small half-smile that revealed his amusement. “I shall let you know once I’ve actually read it.” He held the telegram up and read the message, eyes narrowing a little. The smile vanished, replaced by a blank expression, but he said nothing, just turned the paper over in his fingers and looked neutral.

I Don't Come Cheap, but the Kisses Come Free (How I Met Your Mother/The Office)

Only Dwight cheered. Everyone else looked scandalized (Angela, who looked to be already composing a complaint letter in her head), resigned (Pam, who smiled weakly in Jim’s direction), or depressed (Toby, who was probably wondering how long it would be before Angela filed a complaint).

“Michael, Jan said this was on a volunteer-basis only. You can’t force people to participate--” Toby began.

“Shut up, Toby. Geez, just because you’re upset that no one will pay a single cent for you doesn’t mean you have to try and ruin it for everyone. Besides, you’re staying there.” Michael glared at Toby for a moment, until Toby sighed and looked away, conceding defeat, and then clapped his hands. “All right then! Pam, I want you to figure out who’re sharing cars.”

I'm Gonna Need a Forklift ‘Cause All the Baggage Weighs a Ton (How I Met Your Mother)

Then Robin put a hand on the back of Ted’s neck and tugged, coaxing him up onto the couch next to her. Her hand was hot and heavy and he felt something coil deep in his belly-- it’s that familiar sensation of desire that never quite went away, even after they broke up. Ted doubted that this ache of want would ever recede, not when Robin could still look at him with half-lidded, glittering eyes and touch him like this.

“Robin,” he said, uncertain suddenly. He wanted to tell her that really, he didn’t mind if she cheated at Truth or Dare and lied to Barney about any sexual attraction she did or didn’t have towards him. The words got lost somewhere between his lungs and his lips as Robin leaned in, expression intent.

Sons of the Thief, Sons of the Saint (Starsky and Hutch)

Nathan Fitzpatrick’s pale blue eyes were wide and startled-looking, as though he’d honestly thought his killer wouldn’t shoot him. Starsky resisted the itch in his fingers that wanted to at least attempt to close the poor kid’s eyes.

It would have been a pointless gesture anyway. The body was in rigor, the night janitor having stumbled on it only a half-hour earlier.

The Wind at Evening Smells of Roads Still to be Traveled (SG-1/SGA)

On the first planet they visit, which is called Athos by the people living there, the air is crisp and clean and smells of pine trees and a recent rain. It looks just like every other planet Daniel's visited over the years. The natives radiate the usual mixture of politeness and wariness, courteously but firmly informing Colonel Sumner that they do not trade with strangers. (Stranger: a newcomer in a place or locality; a person who is not a member of the family, group, community, or the like, as a visitor or guest. Daniel and the others with him are more strangers than even the Athosians suspect.)

It's Major Sheppard of all people who breaks the ice by smiling at the Athosian leader and informing her that he likes "Ferris Wheels and, uh, college football; anything that goes more than two hundred miles per hour," which both confuses and entertains her if the softening of her features and smile is anything to go by.

Daniel befriends an Athosian called Toran, who insists that the remains of the city Sumner spots in the distance shouldn't be disturbed and that the Wraith will come if they upset the city's sanctity. Toran is in deadly earnest, eyes dark and fiery with intensity as he urges them to avoid the city's remnants. He can't quite grasp that Daniel and the others have never heard of the Wraith.

"Then you should go back," he repeats, over and over again. "You have obviously been blessed by the Ancestors. Why would you spurn that gift? You should go back."

You're an Alias, an Email Address (SGA)

“Now that’s the way to handle them,” Charin said, approval in her voice. “A firm but gentle hand. Your father was a good man but a bit too lenient when it came to his employees’ antics, I always said.”

Teyla raised an eyebrow at her father’s favorite employee who, despite having retired five years ago, still liked to frequent the bookstore and offer Teyla her opinions on how her father would have handled each and every situation. “They are hard workers,” she said.

“Never said they weren’t,” Charin answered, as though the thought had never even crossed her mind, and then tapped her cane against the counter. “Has my order come in yet?” When Teyla shook her head, Charin snorted. “You really should look into finding different dealers, dear. Some of the people you consort with are rather unreliable.”

“Elizabeth and Peter told you several of the books were rare and would take a few weeks to find all the books you requested,” Teyla reminded her and Charin snorted again, expression clearly showing what she thought of that particular excuse.
