What's the story that makes you happiest? Tell Your Story Now

My favorite stories this year:

Tell Your Story Now
The Best Time of Your Life
Hat Trick
Between the Shadow and the Soul
-All of Enduring Legends

My 5 best stories this year:

Tell Your Story Now
Enduring Legends: The Ring
Variations on the Word Love
in this life of hope and risk
Between the Shadow and the Soul

Most popular story:

Tell Your Story Now, Traveled This Far on the Back of Every Mistake, Hat Trick, and Desire is Full of Endless Distances.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: The Fate You've Carved on Me -- I had a lot of fun with this little AU.

Most fun story: Enduring Legends! I've never really co-written anything before, and it was a lot of fun to bounce ideas and stories back and forth between me and Lily.

Sexiest story: I didn't write too many sexy stories, even half of my Porn Battle prompts turned into stories rather than PWP. I guess Desire is Full of Endless Distances and Dreams are Private Myths since those two are...the only fics I wrote this year with any sex in them, heh.

Story with single sexiest moment: Desire is Full of Endless Distances

Story with single sweetest moment: The Best Time of Your Life

Hardest story to write: That's a tie between Variations on the Word Love and Between the Shadow and the Soul. The first was because I really wanted to write something melannen would enjoy because melannen wrote me such an awesome Madelyn Mack story for me in 2009. And then the second because it's the longest thing I've ever written, heh.

Easiest story to write: Tell Your Story Now

Truest story of the year: Tell Your Story Now

Story that made you cry/saddest story: Desire is Full of Endless Distances. It didn't make me cry, but oh, Raylan, you magnificent fuck-up.

"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" story: Dreams are Private Myths ...Yeah, that one was an interesting one to write.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: The Best Time of Your Life Margo! Violet! It seems incredible to me that this time last year I hadn't fallen in love with the idea of that particular femslash pairing.

Biggest disappointment: The World Was All Playthings -- This could have been a longer and better story than it ended up being. Someday I might actually write a longer John/Ronon fic and really delve into the characters.

Biggest surprise: All four of my most popular stories rather surprised me. However, the biggest surprises were Tell Your Story Now and Endless Distances. I was not expecting an Eric/OMC story to be so popular, nor a second person POV story for Justified.

Favorite opening line:

When you kiss him, it's the sweetest kind of sin. -- Desire is Full of Endless Distances

Favorite closing line:

"Someday," she murmurs, nipping at his lower lip, "I will collect on that dance you owe me."

His eyes darken at that, pupils dilating. "Diana," he says, her name like a promise. He bows his head to kiss the curve of her throat. "Have you ever heard of a dance called the tango?"
-- Behind the Mask

Favorite line from anywhere:

“Diana, I,” he said, a bewildered note creeping into his voice. He lifted his head, staring at her with an unfocused gaze, his eyes looking through her as though he couldn’t see anything clearly. A grimace flitted across his face, half-hidden by the mask. “I feel--” He closed his eyes, swayed almost drunkenly. The necklace slipped from his nerveless grasp, dropping to the ground in a quiet chime of metal. “My--” One hand rose, reached blindly towards his back, and then dropped back to his side like dead weight. His fingers trembled for an instant as though he were still trying to reach his back, but soon even his hands were still.

He fell, and Diana leaped forward to catch him.
-Between the Shadow and the Soul

and

It's only afterwards that Violet calls her mom in a panic. "Mom, Margo asked me to the movies, and I don't know if it was just being nice or if she's asking me on a date, or what!" she wails.

There's a long moment of silence on the other end of the phone. "Do you want it to be a date?" her mom asks carefully.

"Yes! No. Ugh," Violet groans, and flings herself onto her bed. "Mom, college sucks," she whines, and hears the distant sound of her mother laughing.

"Enjoy growing up, sweetheart," her mother says.
-The Best Time of Your Life

Favorite title: Traveled This Far on the Back of Every Mistake

Looking back, did you write more stories than you thought you would this year, fewer than you thought, or about what you predicted? A lot more! ...That is probably also due to the fact that I wrote nearly 60,000 words of Merlin fic with a friend as well as 32,000 words of a Diana/Bruce story for het_bigbang.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010? Diana/Bruce! Or any comic book fandom, honestly. I have always been a manga/anime person, so it was a bit of a surprise to find myself sucked into the DCAU.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Uh, well, I wrote the longest stories I've ever written. And I learned that I can write longer stuff, which is good to know since I plan on focusing on original stuff this year.

What story do you want to have written? I wish I could have written that AU to my The Best Time of Your Life story where Violet and Margo meet later in life when they've established themselves as a heroine and a villain. It would have made the dynamic very interesting!

Story I want remembered: Tell Your Story Now

What's next for 2011: Uh, maybe wrapping up a few stories I've had as WIP for years, and participating in Remix and Yuletide and maybe doing another Advent series with Lily. Otherwise, not much. I'm going to try and focus on original stuff, get a few more things published, maybe even finish the original novel I've been taunting Lily with for years.
